The Diagnostic Imaging Department is an integral part of the acute care team here at the hospital. The department is staffed by two radiology/ultrasound technologists, who provide 24 hours a day coverage.
We strive to provide high quality imaging exams to our patients and physicians, keeping in mind the isolation of our community. The department offers a full range of general radiography examinations in a modern and spacious department.
Ultrasound examinations include abdominal, pelvic and obstetrical studies, in addition to small parts (thyroid, breast), evaluation of carotid arterial blood flow, and venous studies.
Images are made available to the ordering physician immediately, on a number of computer systems located in patient care areas around the hospital. At least three times daily, images are sent to Timmins electronically for reporting. Images arrive in Timmins for interpretation within minutes. We are now a filmless environment, with all imaging exams obtained and stored on computer, with the use of the Agfa PACS IMPAX system. All images are stored on a central server here, and also in the main server in Timmins. The purchase of this digital system was financed with funding
from FedNor, the Diagnostic Medical Equipment Fund, and Canada Health InfoWay, which has vastly improved patient care.
